Phone screen replacement is the removal and replacement of a cracked, malfunctioning, or discoloured display — including the glass, digitiser (touch layer), and in most modern phones, the OLED/AMOLED panel underneath — with a genuine or OEM-grade part. Most repair shops quote “screen replacement” as a single flat price, whether it’s a $40 glass-only fix or a $400 full-panel swap. That’s misleading, because the glass and the display are usually one bonded unit on modern phones — you can’t replace just the top layer. That’s the gap this page fills — starting with what you’re actually paying for.
Spiderweb cracks, missing shards, or glass lifting at the edges — even hairline cracks let dust and moisture reach the display underneath.

On almost every phone made since 2018, the protective glass, the touch-sensing digitiser, and the OLED/AMOLED display are bonded into a single unit at the factory. A crack in the outer glass doesn’t mean only the glass is damaged — the impact travels through to the display layer underneath, which is why a “small” crack can still cause dead pixels or touch issues you don’t notice for a few days.
The price gap almost always comes down to the panel technology, not the glass. A cheap “compatible” aftermarket LCD panel can replace a broken OLED screen and make the phone functional again — but you’ll lose true blacks, get a dimmer display in sunlight, and on some phones, lose Face ID or in-screen fingerprint function entirely. A genuine or OEM-grade OLED replacement preserves all of that, which is why it costs more. Ask any repairer directly which type they’re quoting — most won’t volunteer it unless you ask.
Curved-edge screens (common on Samsung Galaxy S and Note models) are also more expensive to replace than flat screens, because the curve requires a more complex bonding process and higher rate of part wastage during manufacturing.
